From Harry Potter to Disney Princess ;your kids will have an never ending list of projects they can make. There are specialty kits, like this Mario version that contain all you will need or you can simply purchase the Perler beads and tools separately.

These sets are a great way to get started with Perler beads.
I highly recommend the tweezers with a point since they are easy to pick up the beads on. I also would get a variety of boards to have the ability to create many designs. To finish your project, you will also need an iron. I highly suggest purchasing a small iron, this AR Judy mini craft iron from Amazon is the best! I love that it is cordless, is easy to use, has a safety pad for placing down when not in use and has a digital temperature to view.

There are tons of patterns online you can download for free. Some of my favorites are: Perler Bead Projects and Kandi Patterns. Pinterest and Google are also a great place to search for specific designs you would like to find.

If you love working with Perler beads, consider investing in a large tub of bead or individual bags of colors. There are such a wide variety of beautiful colors, however I would not recommend going overboard unless you love doing this craft.
Also, don't over look Facebook buy nothing sites in your area. You may find a parent looking to get rid of their excess beads. I also like to be on the lookout at the end of the holiday seasons for sets on clearance. They are a great deal if you are looking to try out this craft.
You will have so much fun doing these Perler bead projects. It may be short lived, but some kids truly enjoy. This is a worthwhile activity to try with your family. Give it a try !
