Vlad the Fabulous Vampire

Vlad the Fabulous Vampire

I recently came across 3 books by Flavia Zorrillo Drago at my local library. I checked them out and loved the messages and illustrations. "Vlad the Fabulous Vampire" is a story about self acceptance and would be perfect for a Social Emotional Learning curriculum. Afterwards, I created a craft that shows how Vlad combined his pink, rosy cheeks and his black vampire. This craft involves some cutting, but the final craft is adorable. This activity will give your child the opportunity to practice cutting, you can lend a hand as needed.

To begin print the templates out and have your child cut out the pieces.

Next, move on to creating the face. First, take the white circles to create the eyes. Using a black marker, draw a line down the center. Color in half of the white circle with a black marker. Glue the eyes at the top of the large gray circle.

Now, glue on Vlad's rosy pink cheeks. Although he tries to hid them in the story, he comes to love his signature pink cheeks. Add them to the sides of the gray circle. After, use a black marker to draw a large smile. Glue the two small white triangle to the side for his teeth.

To complete the face, add a sideways triangle, leaving off the bottom of the triangle, for the nose. Add the ears at the top side of the head.

Now, work on Vlad's cape with the pink lining. Fit the pink piece on top of the black part. Place the head and hands in place before gluing the cape. Once you are happy with the placement of everything, you can glue the hands, head and cape into place.

To complete Vlad the vampire, glue the boots at the bottom of the cape. Fabulous Vlad is now complete. This is a great craft to do in a classroom, homeschool or with your child. It can be used during Halloween, but also fits in year round.
