Supplies Needed ✂️

You’ll only need a few simple supplies for this bird nest craft:

  • 🧻 Toilet paper rolls
  • 🎨 Construction paper and paint
  • ✂️ Scissors
  • 🧴 Glue stick or craft glue
  • 🖍️ Markers or crayons
  • 🧺 Brown paper, shredded paper, or yarn or moss (for the nest)

💡 Tip: Paper rolls can be cut in half to make smaller birds or to create multiple birds per nest.

Step 1: Create the Bird's Body

To make your toilet paper roll bird, begin by folding one end together and staple.

Next, fold the toilet paper roll together and then cut and shape the end of the toilet paper roll. You will round it and create a beak shape towards the middle. You may need to assist your child with this step. After, use a hot glue gun to glue the ends together.

Use a hot glue gun to make the front of the bird's body.

Step 2: Add Details to the Bird

Use the scraps of the toilet paper tube to create a beak for the birds. Completely paint the toilet paper tube white. Allow it to dry and then get to work painting your bird.

Step 3: Make a Nest

You can also create a nest for your birds. It is easy to make with a simple brown paper bag and moss or shredder paper. ( both available at the Dollar Tree) Cut the bag down and then fold the edges over and shape it into a circular shape.

Once you have the nest shape, add some moss or paper to the inside of the bag. You can also glue some around the top and outside.

Step 4: Add the Birds to the Nest

Add your birds to and around the nest to finish the project. Encourage your child to create a story or the play with the nest and birds.
