Mother's Day Sloth Craft

Mother's Day Sloth Craft

Create this adorable craft for your mom for Mother's Day. This is a great keepsake because it uses your child's handprint to create the sloth. Any mom would love to get this created by their child. Read on to fins out how to easily make this in the classroom or at home.

To start, fold a piece of brown paper in half. Begin by tracing your hand on one side and the child's hand on the other side. If you are doing this in the classroom, you may want to pre cut a larger adult hand for the kids. Then, have each child trace and cut out their own hand. No matter how you do this step, you will just need one hand to be larger than the other hand. After tracing, cut out both hands.

After you have two hands, you will cut off the thumb from the paper hands. Then, using a sheet of paper in the same brown that matches the body. Draw a large oval to make the head for each sloth.

Next, lighter shade of brown or beige, cut a smaller oval shape to go over the larger oval shape you just created. This will help create the face of the sloths. Using the scraps from your brown cut outs, make two oval shapes to add to the face. You can also create this with a brown marker or crayon. Using a black marker, add two eyes on each of the sloth's faces.

Now let's add details to the face. Draw a small capital D using a black marker. Color in the shape to create the nose for each sloth. Then, draw a straight line coming down from the nose and curve upwards on each side to make the mouth. Your mom and baby sloth are completed.

To make the background, you can choose any color paper. Using scrap paper, tear a piece to make a tree t branch, Glue this onto the paper you have selected.

Add the mom and baby sloth to the branch, the fingers will act as the arms and legs of the sloth. Glue the mom and then the baby behind mom, add another piece of brown paper to extend the branch. Tuck the pieces under and over the branch to make the sloths look like they are hanging from the tree.

Place the mom and baby near each other on the branch

To complete the project add the saying " I love hanging out with you!" to the paper you have added the sloths to. Then you can have your child add their name or additional message to the paper. You can also add some stickers or other details with markers. I added foam, glitter stickers I had to the tree.

This project makes a sweet Mother's Day present, however it can also be given to anyone special in your child's life.
